Stained Glass Window!

Right now I am in love with this idea!  I am thinking about doing this for the long thin window that is next to my front door.  Maybe I will use the flowers we get when the baby is born!!  Below the picture I have an idea on how to keep the color of the flowers to last longer!  Happy idea for a window!





Here is a way to keep the colors lasting for YEARS: take a piece of wax paper (wax side up) and arrange the flower (or Fall leaves -- my favorite!) on it. Add another piece of wax paper (wax side down) and press with the iron until wax melts and the two sides stick together. This lasts quite a long time. In fact, I think my parents still have one I made about, oh, 20 years ago. :)

Bean bag toss

Try setting up a beanbag toss for your little one! Stuff a few old socks with uncooked beans or I was also thinking uncooked pasta, tie the ends tight with pieces of ribbon, and let your toddler toss away. You can even create a target by cutting a large hole in a piece of cardboard that you decorate, or use a wastebasket for a target. Depending on the strength and enthusiasm of your child, this may be an outside activity!  This idea came from babycenter.com

I LOVE THIS IDEA!!!  This blog gives you a link to little printable cards that say your garden is lovely.  I plan on printing them out and having Gianna color on them and then when we go to people's houses or on walks leave them in peoples garden.  I will probably laminate so if the gardener waters before they notice the card it won't be ruined.  What a great way to teach your child to show appreciation for what others do!!

I am a month from my due date and feeling every bit of it.  I am so exhausted and slow!  My sassy 18 month old is faster than I am now!  Not good!  I am done with work so now I am home with her all day which is fantastic but so so tiring.  I also feel bad because I don't have the energy or stamina to do fun activities with her.  :(  The dr told me this week that she is worried I am going to deliver soon, which would be why I feel so bad lately!  I want to get back to enjoying my days with my little one and soon to be other little one!  I just needed to vent for a post.  Thanks!  ;)

What a wonderful idea to create a letter writing kit for your child to help them write a letter to whomever they choose!  I need the kit for me, to have everything thing together would really help get letters out!!  Two years ago my New Years Resolution was to write each friend (the ones I talk to a lot and ones I sometimes chat with) and let them know what they mean to me.  I loved it and I think my friends did as well.  I received phone calls from surprised beloved friends who loved getting a surprise card in the mail.

bow tie

I found this great blog with directions on how to make a bow tie!!!  My husband's brother is getting married this July so I will have a little man with me to celebrate the occasion!  Since his dad will be in a tux I figured he needs one as well!  This tie was so easy to make!  It took less than an hour!  I will say since I made it for a newborn I halved the measurements and it turned out the perfect size! YAY

puzzle pockets

I saw this idea on the website cluck cluck sew.  I created puzzle pockets! I used fabric, Velcro, pinking shears and a hot glue gun.  Super easy!

Cut the fabric bigger than the back of the puzzle.  Put a line of hot glue across the bottom or sides of the puzzle.  Since the fabric is bigger than the puzzle, gather the fabric in the glue line as you stick it down. This will allow room for the pieces to fit in.

Cut another strip of fabric the same width as the puzzle and glue down the top to create a flap to keep it closed.  I glued the Velcro to the lid and the top of the pocket.

Since you gathered the fabric as you stuck it in the glue the puzzle pieces fit!

Honestly, the first puzzle I created a pocket for I had to do it 2 times before I had it right.  After that the rest of the puzzles went smoothly!

keeping socks together

I got tired of not being able to find the matches to Gianna's socks, so I found a lingerie laundry bag in my closet.  I have been using that keep the dirty socks together.  I wash the socks in the bag and then when cleaned putting them away is a snap!  My next plan is to add ribbon to the bags so I can hang it on the outside of the laundry basket in between washes.  I'll post a picture when I get that done!

placemat

Gianna refuses to eat while sitting in her high chair so she is now in a booster seat and LOVES IT!!  Cleaning the table was a huge chore because of the wood so I put a plastic table cloth from Target on the table.  I taped the sides down to keep her from pulling it off.  That works great and is so much easier!  I also made Gianna her own place mat.  I found pictures of food in magazines and wrote the words next to each picture.  Since I am still at work I got it laminated so it stays nice! 

 I made it two sided so we would have more to look at!

new product alert!

As a mom with little time I still love to have my nails painted but always mess them up before they dry.  I found Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips at Walgreens!  They go on dry and ready to go!  It did take a bit to figure out how to put the strips on my nails but once I got the  hang of it I was off and running!  I plan on putting a clear coat on over it later on so hopefully it will last even longer than the promised 10 days.  Only downside that I have found so far is the price.  $10  for one shot but I love the way they look!  I chose the pattern called girl flower and now my nails have flowers all over them!  FUN!!!

Awake Training for Parents:


Dear Fellow Babies,



OK, here’s my situation. My Mommy has had me for almost 5 months. The first few months were great – I cried, she picked me up and fed me, anytime, around the clock. Then something happened. Over the last few weeks, she has been trying to STTN (sleep thru the night). At first, I thought it was just a phase, but it is only getting worse.



I’ve talked to other babies, and it seems like its pretty common after Mommies have had us for around 5-6 months. Here’s the thing: these Mommies don’t really need to sleep. It’s just a habit. Many of them have had some 30 years to sleep – they just don’t need it anymore. So I am implementing a plan. I call it the Crybaby Shuffle.



It goes like this:



Night 1 – cry every 3 hours until you get fed. I know, it’s hard. It’s hard to see your Mommy upset over your crying. Just keep reminding yourself, it’s for her own good.



Night 2 – cry every 2 hours until you get fed.



Night 3 – every hour.



Most Mommies will start to respond more quickly after about 3 nights. Some Mommies are more alert, and may resist the change longer. These Mommies may stand in your doorway for hours, shhhh-ing. Don’t give in. I cannot stress this enough: CONSISTENCY IS KEY!! If you let her STTN (sleep through the night), just once, she will expect it every night. I know it’s hard! But she really does not need the sleep; she is just resisting the change.. If you have an especially alert Mommy, you can stop crying for about 10 minutes, just long enough for her to go back to bed and start to fall asleep. Then cry again. It WILL eventually work. My Mommy once stayed awake for 10 hours straight, so I know she can do it.



The other night, I cried every hour. You just have to decide to stick to it and just go for it. BE CONSISTENT! I cried for any reason I could come up with:



-My sleep sack tickled my foot.

-I felt a wrinkle under the sheet.

-My mobile made a shadow on the wall.

-I burped, and it tasted like rice cereal. I hadn’t eaten rice cereal since breakfast, what’s up with that?

-The dog said “ruff”. I should know. My Mommy reminds me of this about 20 times a day. LOL.

-Once I cried just because I liked how it sounded when it echoed on the monitor in the other room.

-Too hot, too cold, just right – doesn’t matter! Keep crying!!

-I had drooled so much my sheets were damp and I didn’t like it touching me.

-I decided I was sick of all the pink in my room so I cried.



It took awhile, but it worked. She fed me at 4am. Tomorrow night, my goal is 3:30am. You need to slowly shorten the interval between feedings in order to reset your Mommies’ internal clocks.



Sometimes my Mommy will call for reinforcements by sending in Daddy. Don’t worry Daddies are not set up for not needing sleep the way Mommies are. They can only handle a few pats and shhing before they declare defeat and send in the Mommy.



Also, be wary of the sleep sheep with rain noises. I like to give Mommy false hope that listening to the rain puts me to sleep sometimes I pretend to close my eyes and be asleep and then wait until I know Mommy is settling back to sleep to spring a surprise cry attack. If she doesn’t get to me fast enough I follow up with my fake cough and gag noise that always has her running to the crib. At some point I am positive she will start to realize that she really doesn’t really need sleep.



P.S. Don’t let those rubber things fool you, no matter how long you suck on them, no milk will come out.

Wow it has been a long time since I have posted anything!  SO SORRY!!!!!!  I will start getting better.  It has been crazy in my life.  We are expecting a little boy the beginning of June.  Glenn Anthony Regina will have a wonderful big sister, Gianna, who has kept me very busy over the last few months.  I finishing up my school year and cleaning out my classroom.  I am taking next school year off to be at home with my little sweethearts and I cannot wait!  Such a wonderful blessing.  I can't wait to get back to what I love, creating fun activities and ideas to do with little kids!  So please keep checking back, my blog will become full of new ideas again soon!

No cook Playdoh

I wanted to make playdoh with Gianna  but I did not want to have to do it on the stove.  So with a quick search on the Internet I found a recipe for exactly what I wanted!  Instead of mixing ingredients in a bowl we did it in a Ziploc bag so Gianna could do the mixing!

This is a wonderful recipe to make cinnamon Applesauce ornaments!  I have had some for years (I keep in my freezer between holidays) and they still smell great!  Since it is just made out of cinnamon and applesauce it is safe for little ones to work with.

Interesting idea for an angry pimple

I found this tip in the All You Magazine and I thought it looked interesting.  I have not tried it yet but it might not hurt the next time an angry pimple rears it's ugly head!

Freeze a cotton swab soaked with Visine, then place on the blemish until the solution defrosts.  The coldness reduces swelling while the formula zaps the redness.

String-Along

Small round objects are extra-enticing now that your baby is mastering
the "pincer grasp." Seize the chance to hone those fine motor skills while
also (hopefully) getting her to sit still for a little more breakfast than usual.
Appropriate for: 1 to 2 years
Skills developed: Fine motor, hand-eye coordination

What you'll need: A sturdy, short string, plastic cord, or shoelace; cereal-Os; a bracelet
On a highchair tray or nonbreakable plate, spread a thin layer of any kind
of O-shaped cereal with reasonably large holes. Then make a small
bracelet using a 6-inch piece of string or plastic cord (sold in craft stores).
Thread some Os on the string, then tie it around your baby's wrist.
Compare it to one of your own bracelets or necklaces, ideally one made
of beads that you can examine together. She'll feel like a big girl because
she's wearing "jewelry."

Safety note: Don't use a string longer than 6 inches; this can be a
strangling hazard. And supervise your baby while she's wearing her
cereal "bracelet."

Variation: As a special, occasional treat for an older child, this activity is a real thrill if the stringing is done with shoestring licorice and colorful "sugar cereal" with holes. Once she's finished, she can devour the entire bracelet.




Package Play

We all like getting presents, but for babies, the unwrapping the thing. There's both the thrill of discovery and the fun of making his fingers do what he wants. In this game, it doesn't seem to matter that the "present" is actually a bath toy he's been playing with for months – it's the element of surprise that counts.

Appropriate for: 8 months to 1 year

Skills developed: Hand-eye coordination, understanding of object permanence

What you'll need: A washcloth or two; some small plastic bath toys

At bath time, when your baby's seated in the bath but not looking right at you, use a wet washcloth to "wrap" a small bath toy, such as a rubber duckie or plastic dinosaur. Present him with the "package," saying, "I'm giving you a present." He'll unfold the washcloth, squeal with delight, and immediately want to do it again.

If you have two washcloths handy, you can start wrapping the next present while he's busy unwrapping the first one. As he gets older and his dexterity increases, he'll delight in wrapping such presents for you to open, a wonderful way to encourage his natural sense of generosity.

Remember: Each baby develops at a different pace, so if yours isn't quite ready for this week's activities, don't worry — just try them again in a few weeks.
