making clouds

I thought since we are suppose to get storms tomorrow it might be fun with the older kiddos to make clouds! It is always interesting to find out how clouds are made, on a much smaller scale of course! I did this activity in college in one of my classes and I had a great time with it. For today I found the directions on http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-a-cloud-in-a-bottle/

step 1Prepare the bottle
Get your Lipton Tea bottle and clean it out (don't use soap) Fill the bottle with water from your sink or hose or whatever. Now empty it out. Dry only the outside of the bottle. You only have little droplets in the bottle now, right? Good.

step 2Test your bottle
OK, we're getting to the good part. Close the bottle with the cap and squeeze really hard. -When you squeeze, the air pressure inside the bottle goes up, and so does the temperature. -When you release, the air pressure inside the bottle goes back down and so does the temperature. Squeezing the bottle was to give you a science lesson and to check for leaks. If t…

step 3YAY! Fire!
So, now were really close to the fun part. I'm now going to tell you why Lipton Tea bottles should be used. 1.They're flat and totally see through, unlike most bottles which have designs which alter visibility so you can't see inside the bottle. 2.They are really tough! Most bottles are smashed or crushed when you squeeze them too much. These bottles are as tough as …

step 4Conclusion
Clouds are made from water droplets, decreased air pressure, and smoke.

To ease the night time snacking

I read somewhere to help with night time snacking brush your teeth after dinner. Most people will continue to snack if teeth are not brushed! I know I am one of those people and this trick has helped me stay away from the extra desserts! :) I hit the bathroom to brush the pearly whites when the dinner dishes are done!

A Great Photographer

www.sungazingphotography.com

Hey everybody Here is a website for a fantastic photographer! Her name is Julie and I love her work! We had her do our preggo pictures, Gianna's newborn, 3 month, and just today her 6 month! If you are looking for someone to take excellent pictures look no further than Julie! Check out her site! Also, from her site you can go to her blog and see a preview of sweet Gianna's 6 month pictures and a great sample of her work! If you want to know more about her let me know!

teething biscuits

I am thinking about introducing teething biscuits to Gianna soon so I was looking up information. Well I found a website that has a variety of recipes. It is the same website that I have been using for information on making her baby food!

http://www.homemade-baby-food-recipes.com/teething-biscuit-recipes.html

Some of these recipes I want to make for me!! ;)

Website for ovulation calendar

http://www.babyhopes.com/ovulation-calendar.html

When my husband and I were trying to get pregnant with Gianna I found this website very helpful. It was acurate with telling me when I was ovulating (I know this because for some of the months I was also using the at-home tests). One of the fun features of this ovulation calendar is it tells you when you are more likly to concieve a girl or boy. The girl and boy sperm live very differently to learn more about it you can catch Sizing up Sperm on National Geographic! This show acts out the trials and tribulations of sperm! I thought the show was very interesting (remember I teach Child Development so what I find interesting may be completely weird to others!)http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/episode/sizing-up-sperm-4921/Overview

great website

Okay so I found another great website! http://www.nickjr.com/

This website has great activities, snacks and much more! Check it out!

My must have

I have posted all the items that Gianna loves and I realized I haven't posted what I really love. Well I could not live without my sling! I have a peanut shell sling and LOVE it!! I think I paid around $60 for it at babies r us and I am so glad I did! I started putting Gianna in the first week home. She was laying down in it at that time with a blanket rolled up under her, to keep her head from falling forward. For the last few months she has been in the kangaroo carry and she is just starting sitting on my hip while in the sling. It is so easy to use but you have to use it correctly! All of the directions are on You Tube make sure you watch them it is very important for safety and comfort! The sling is not comfortable if not used correctly! Also, they come in sizes, according to mom not baby! Make sure you get the correct size! Gianna is almost 6 months now and I use it all the time! My shopping trips last a lot longer if she is in the sling rather than sitting in car seat or even sitting up in the cart! It is by far my most must have item! I love my Peanut Shell Sling!!

Oobleck!

I love Oobleck!! The first time I made it was in college! Now I always tell my students about it so they can use it in the preschool! So much fun for kiddos of any age! I got this recipe from the Magic House! Thank you Magic House! ;)

Oobleck!

One of The Magic House’s favorite activities! Oobleck is a Non-Newtonian Fluid. This means it is neither a solid nor a liquid! This is so easy and all you need are TWO ingredients.

Oobleck Recipe
Materials:
Cornstarch
Water
Measuring Cup
Spoon

Directions
Mix water and cornstarch in a bowl or container (try 1/2 cup cornstarch with 1/4 cup water for starters.)

The mixture should be wet enough to flow, but dry enough to break off in pieces...experiment with the consistency- pinch it, squeeze it, break it!

The mixture dries out as you use it. So add a little water to bring it back to it's original state.

Don't pour the oobleck down the drain!

To heat or not to heat that is the question!

Okay so the more people I talk to I realize that most parents heat their baby's bottle.....I do not! I use cold water in her bottle! I read somewhere that the cold water helps when your baby is teething so that made me feel better since I have never heated Gianna's bottle (by never I mean her formula as a new born was kept in the fridge then straight into her bottle)! I also take her baby food from the freezer (I make her food)to the fridge to her mouth! IT IS COLD!! I had no idea people heat it! I think this is a good example that parenting is about finding what works for your family and not falling into the traps of what everyone tells you. My mom was astonished that I don't heat her bottles! It is so easy that I don't have to worry about heating them while we are out, same with the food. Do what is right for you!! ;) Remember that the cold helps the sore gums!

Good parenting website

I was watching a show called wordworld this morning on channel 9 and a commerial for PBS' website came on. What a great website for parenting information. Check it out!
The tv show wordworld is pretty cute as well.

Ideas to help around the house

These ideas are from my Real Simple mag!

*To clean your kitchen sponge heat it in the microwave for 1 min, so much faster than the dishwasher!

*Use raw spaghetti strands to light hard-to-reach candles.

*Store each sheet set inside a pillowcase, this way your linens are much neater and easier to find!

homemade toy

So I have noticed how Gianna likes to be up on all fours but she is unable to do it on her own so I created a toy to help.

I put rice inside a formula container; I wanted there to be a rattling noise. The duct tape was used to tape the lid close. I put stuffing (like what you stuff a pillow) around the container and placed it in a gallon size ziplock bag. I had a large hankie that I sewed to look like a pillowcase. Once everything was inside I sewed it shut! This toy helps Gianna be on all fours and to sit up! She loves it!

fairy wings

I want to have Gianna wear fairy wings for her upcoming 6 month pictures. Well all wings that I found were way to big so I made my own! I used 1 hanger, panty hose, some leaves from fake flowers, felt beads, and ribbon! The ribbon I have tied around the center of the wings and tied in a bow around each arm to keep the wings in place. If you would like me to make you a pair let me know!
